Cyclist Designs Bike Jersey for Greatest Possible Visibility
When motorists can’t see cyclists, they’re
at serious risk
U. S. Dept. of Transportation* data shows that around 1,000
cyclists are killed each year while riding.
A cyclist, Earle Bower, 78, was shocked to learn how many riders
are hit by drivers who didn’t see them in broad daylight. So
he decided to do something about it: develop the brightest possible
colored bicycle jerseys for ultimate visibility during daylight
hours. He calls them ‘see me wear’™.
Drivers are looking for other motor vehicles and not for cyclists
who present a much smaller, narrower image. ‘see me wear’ jerseys
make cyclists more visible, particularly in shade or fading
sunlight.
“It just makes sense that the cyclist with the brightest clothing
has the best chance of being seen by motorists,” says Bower,
a long time North Carolina cyclist. “Look at the jerseys in
bike shops or mail order catalogs; they feature a lot of darker
colors which don’t show up well in shade or overcast days. ”
In contrast, ‘see me wear’ jerseys are designed using the three
brightest fluorescent colors in an alternating chevron stripe
pattern of Orange, Yellow and Lime. The jerseys are 100% polyester
for the ultimate in wicking and are sublimation printed so colors
will last for life. They feature three back pockets and full
zippers.
